Early on Sunday, Donald Trump tweeted this:
“@ilduce2016: “It is better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as a sheep.” – @realDonaldTrump #MakeAmericaGreatAgain“
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 28, 2016
Marcus Hawkins then noted that the user Trump retweeted may have been making fun of Trump—and succeeded. The user, “@ilduce2016,” has a profile picture that includes Trump’s hair on Mussolini, the quote is Mussolini’s, and his Twitter handle, “ilduce2016, alludes to Mussolini, who was identified by Fascists as “Il Duce.”
Hmmmm,
Should we tell him? Mussolini’s name in handle, Mussolini quote, Mussolini with Trump hair pic…. Oy vey… https://t.co/ClhjKM2rYF— Marcus (@HawkinsUSA) February 28, 2016
We look forward to learning what punishment Trump has devised for the intern responsible.
UPDATE: Chuck Todd asked about the tweet, and Trump replied, “It’s okay to know it’s Mussolini. Mussolini was Mussolini. It’s okay to—it’s a very good quote, it’s a very interesting quote, and I saw—I know who said it. What difference does it make whether it’s Mussolini or somebody else?”
Todd also asked, “you want to be associated with a Fascist?”
“No, I want to be associated with interesting quotes,” Trump replied. “I have almost 14 million people between Instagram, and Facebook, and twitter, and all of that. And we do interesting things.”

Gawker is reporting that they were behind the account:
We built a Mussolini-quoting Twitter bot to see if @realDonaldTrump was dumb enough to retweet it. He was! Sad!! https://t.co/n0m2eTTAhv
