Building brands, fostering relationships

Bob Fiddler makes companies feel special. The founder and chief executive officer of The Fiddler Group, an integrated brand communications agency in Annapolis works to create brands that allow companies to stand out.

“We help companies on a strategic level discover what it is that makes them unique and special,” he said. “Then we build that into their business.”

After working for a consulting agency in Georgetown, Fiddler founded his company in 1998 with a Rolodex and a campaign of cold calls.

“When you leave an agency, you have to dowhat you can,” he said. “I got a little lucky.”

The Fiddler Group now employs five full-time workers , and collaborates with freelancers and contractors to fill any gaps. The group works with 12 clients and is working on acquiring more.

“It?s a fallacy to measure agencies by the number of bodies they have in cubicles,” Fiddler said. “Our billings will continue to grow, and we will grow organically in terms of staff so we can deliver our best product to the clients.”

“They?re not traditional,” said Debbie Gosselin of Watermark Tours & Cruises, a Fiddler client for the past 18 months. “They really are creative in their approaches to marketing.”

Watermark stays with the Fiddler Group because “they?re local, approachable and really good,” Gosselin said.

Fiddler sees his Annapolis location as an opportunity for future growth.

“We never really intended to be a local agency in the sense that we would grow on local business,” he said. “Now we are getting more calls from premier local businesses.”
