Trump: Immigration order must stand to provide ‘security and safety’

President Trump said Wednesday his executive order needs to be maintained to provide security to Americans, the morning after a panel of judges appeared skeptical about the legal reasoning behind the order.

“If the U.S. does not win this case as it so obviously should, we can never have the security and safety to which we are entitled. Politics!” Trump tweeted.

Trump has been critical of the federal judge who blocked his immigration order nationwide, along with the ruling itself. He defended it on Tuesday by saying his order was “common sense.”

On Tuesday night, a panel of three federal appellate judges heard arguments in the case about whether to allow the stay to continue, and indicated they were critical of the Department of Justice lawyers tasked with defending Trump’s order.

The ruling on the stay is expected later this week.
