Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said former national security adviser Michael Flynn’s guilty plea is an indication special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation is far from over.
In an interview Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” Schiff said Flynn’s admission that he lied about his communications with Russian officials during President Trump’s transition into office means Mueller is likely getting use out of his deal with Flynn.
“I think the fact that the factual basis for the plea sets out that he wasn’t acting as a rogue agent, he was acting with the knowledge and at the direction of people who were senior members of the transition team, I think that probably all of which ultimately ended up in the administration, is very significant,” Schiff said. “And it indicates to me, at least, that this is not the end of it by any means.”
Mueller’s team announced Flynn’s plea on Friday, though the White House has dismissed the revelation as “nothing” and Trump on Saturday again denied that his campaign colluded with Russia in the 2016 election.
Flynn reportedly told prosecutors he was directed to speak with Russian officials by senior members of the transition team. His communication with the officials was in an effort to ask Russia not to retaliate against sanctions placed on the Kremlin by the Obama administration during the transition.
