Watch: Cory Booker says Donald Trump ‘demeans’ and ‘divides’ America

New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker lambasted Donald Trump in a new video, calling the presumed Republican nominee someone who demeans and divides the country.

“There’s an old saying, ‘If you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together,'” Booker says to open a new two-minute video by MoveOn, a progressive political action committee and advocacy group.

The Democratic senator continues: “There’s a man running for president who’s saying the exact opposite and lying about it. His name is Donald Trump and while we are working to grow as a country together, he’s pulling us apart.”

Booker, who has been mentioned as a possible vice presidential pick for Hillary Clinton, notes that though the United States still has work to do, it has become more inclusive and united.

“But as a nation, we’ve become better at recognizing our interdependence. Better at recognizing that we all do better when we all do better,” he continues. “When we elevate each other as equals, this country moves forward and thrives.”

But Trump, according to Booker, is going to move the country backward and erase the progress made. Trump is the candidate who “demeans us, degrades us and divides us,” Booker says.

Booker then references Trump’s comments aimed at the military, including when he denied that Sen. John McCain was a war hero. Trump also demeaned a reporter with a disability, Booker says.

“America needs you to do your part to take on Trump,” Booker says, pleading for people to share his video. He also urges people to get active in stopping Trump by volunteering, donating, talking to friends and family and posting online.

“Our nation’s dream still demands service and sacrifice,” Booker concludes. “We the people must make this a more perfect union.”
