A statement from McConnell spokesman Don Stewart in response to the President’s op-ed on the stimulus:

Noticeably absent from the President’s op-ed on the stimulus today are the words “save or create 3.5 to 4 million jobs.” In their place, a new definition of success for the stimulus: “it will steadily save and create jobs as it ramps up over this summer and fall.” Just “jobs” not “millions of jobs?” Oh, and apparently, the stimulus was only supposed to provide “the boost necessary to stop the free fall.” And, “it has done that”-even though the unemployment rate is going up, not down as predicted. As you read the op-ed below, remember what their definition was for a successful stimulus just two months ago: “The first and most important purpose of the act is to preserve and create jobs.”
