Daughter of Alice Marie Johnson thanks Trump for commuting her mother’s life sentence

The daughter of recently commuted 63-year-old Alice Marie Johnson thanked President Trump for listening to her case and freeing her mother.

Trump commuted Johnson’s life sentence on Wednesday, just one week after reality TV star Kim Kardashian West advocated for her release in an Oval Office meeting.

“I want to publicly thank President Trump for doing that. That’s awesome,” Tretessa Johnson said on MSNBC just moments after the news broke.

The younger Johnson also thanked Kardashian for drawing national attention to her mother and lobbying on behalf with Trump and his son-in-law and White House adviser Jared Kushner.

“So grateful to @realDonaldTrump, Jared Kushner & to everyone who has showed compassion & contributed countless hours to this important moment for Ms. Alice Marie Johnson,” Kardashian West tweeted following the news.

“Her commutation is inspirational & gives hope to so many others who are also deserving of a second chance,” she continued.

The White House said in a statement that Johnson, who was sentenced to life in prison following a singular drug charge in 1996, was an exemplary inmate and had accepted responsibility for her crimes.
