Jack Johnson court date set

A date has been set for former Prince George’s County Executive Jack Johnson to appear in federal court to enter a plea on federal corruption-related charges.

Johnson’s arraignment is set to be held March 15 before U.S. District Court Judge William Connelly at the federal courthouse in Greenbelt, according to online court records.

Johnson, 61, who is not in custody, was indicted in February on eight federal corruption-related charges.

He stands accused of taking hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of bribes during most of his eight-year tenure in a pay-to-play conspiracy involving developers and businessmen.

The indictment says he also pressured the same businessmen to help fund his wife Leslie’s campaign for County Council. Leslie Johnson, who represents District 6 on the council, was charged with witness and evidence tampering after FBI agents investigating her husband raided her Mitchellville home last year.

She has not been indicted, though that could change between now and March 16, when a preliminary hearing is scheduled in federal court.
