Hollywood sign gets new look ahead of 100th birthday

Hollywood’s historic sign is getting a face-lift ahead of its 100th birthday in 2023.

The Tinseltown icon received a pressure-washing and rust removal followed by a new coat of roughly 250 gallons of primer and white paint, according to a report.

The renovation time for the sign should take up to eight weeks.

Built in 1923, the sign originally read “Hollywoodland” as a promotion for property development.

It was changed to read “Hollywood” after decades of neglect and was then replaced in 1978.

“It’s now representing not only the place of Hollywood, but it signifies the entertainment industry, and LA is the entertainment capital of the world,” said Jeff Zarrinnam of the Hollywood Sign Trust.

The sign, which stands 45 feet tall, has been repainted every 10 years.
