Yang, 44, is a long-shot candidate for the Democratic nomination, pulling in 1.3% support in the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls, has a quirky social media following known as the “Yang Gang” that helped him meet the benchmarks to join the first round of primary debates.
Before the start of the debate, Yang tweeted out a video showing a staffer placing an American flag pin on his jacket. He also shared a message to the Yang Gang: “Debate Mode Yang activated.”
