‘Respect’: Andrew Yang ditches tie for 2020 debate

Andrew Yang declined to wear a tie for the second night of the first 2020 Democratic presidential debate Thursday evening, and people took notice.

The technology entrepreneur was one of 10 candidates on the stage and was the only man who did not wear a tie, causing a stir on Twitter.

Yang, 44, is a long-shot candidate for the Democratic nomination, pulling in 1.3% support in the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls, has a quirky social media following known as the “Yang Gang” that helped him meet the benchmarks to join the first round of primary debates.

Before the start of the debate, Yang tweeted out a video showing a staffer placing an American flag pin on his jacket. He also shared a message to the Yang Gang: “Debate Mode Yang activated.”
