Missouri woman likely smuggled gun into jail through body cavity, sheriff says

A Missouri woman appears to have smuggled a gun into jail using a body cavity, according to local authorities.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office in central Missouri posted a message on social media to say the woman was searched three times on her way to jail, and the firearm was never found.

Amy Natasha Wilhite, 39, was arrested on Feb. 14 on felony charges, including possession of a controlled substance, a firearm, resisting and interfering with arrest, and several previous warrants.

She was searched upon arrest, once more through a “thorough pat search” at the jail, and again during a strip search, police said. The firearm was not found in any search.

More than two weeks after being introduced to the general jail population, employees found a .22 caliber revolver in her belongings.

“It is believed Wilhite had the very small revolver concealed within a body cavity when she was brought into the Boone County Jail,” the sheriff’s office said in the post.

Authorities said the revolver is 4 inches long and nearly 2.5 inches wide with a weight of about 4.6 ounces.
