A New York man was sentenced to a year in prison after he admitted to threatening to shoot Rep. Ilhan Omar.
Patrick W. Carlineo, Jr., 56, was convicted of threatening to assault and murder a federal official. Carlineo was also found guilty of illegally possessing a firearm, according to the Department of Justice. The court delivered his sentence on Friday.
Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, had asked U.S. District Court Judge Frank Geraci for “compassion” and a lax sentence after Carlineo pleaded guilty to threatening to kill her. He faced up to a decade in prison for his crimes.
Carlineo made the threat against Omar in a March 21, 2019, phone call to her office. A staff member in Omar’s office answered the call, and Calineo made a number of allegations and threats against the congresswoman directly to the aide.
“Do you work for the Muslim Brotherhood? Why are you working for her, she’s a [expletive] terrorist. Somebody ought to put a bullet in her skull. Back in the day, our forefathers would have put a bullet in her [expletive],” the staff member said, according to the DOJ. “I’ll put a bullet in her [expletive] skull.”
Last week, Timothy Ireland, 42, was sentenced to three years of supervised release for possessing firearms and ammunition as a felon. Federal authorities began investigating Ireland after he made a comment on Facebook that said Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Omar’s fellow “squad” member, “should be shot.”
