Hollywood actress Stacey Dash isn’t fazed by other conservatives who are reluctant to believe Donald Trump, who once described himself as “very pro-choice,” has evolved into a steadfast opponent of abortion.
Dash delivered an emotional testimonial during a sit-down interview Monday with the Washington Examiner about her own experience with abortion, what suddenly led her to decide against the in-clinic procedure and why she refuses to doubt Trump’s “change” from pro-choice to pro-life.
“I was on the abortion table at one point in my life and I did not have the abortion and it’s because God spoke to me,” Dash said. “I’ve had a life where I’ve learned how to turn my sad into mad and for some reason, I could not turn this grief into anger.”
She continued, “I was doing a lot of drugs at this point in my life. I was in a bad relationship, [and] I said, ‘God, you have to tell me what to do because I don’t know what to do.’ And he did.”
“I ripped the IV out of my arm. I jumped up off the table and started freaking out … and my doctor said, ‘Calm down. Let’s do a sonogram.’ So we did, and I saw my son’s tiny little heartbeat and I thought, ‘Jesus Christ, how could I have even considered taking this life that God has given me?'” Dash recalled.
Dash, now an outspoken pro-life actress and Fox News contributor, said that moment led her to believe that people can change their views — not just on abortion, but on myriad issues.
She suggested that Trump could benefit from striking a softer tone when he discusses sensitive and divisive issues such as abortion on the campaign trail and in media appearances.
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee suggested earlier this year that women who receive abortions should face “some form of punishment.” He later walked back the remark amid backlash from pro-life and pro-choice activists, alike.
“I’ve seen that side of him and I’ve seen him even say, ‘You know what, I shouldn’t have said that.’ And I’ve seen him say, ‘I’ve change my mind,'” Dash said of Trump.
“It’s okay to change his mind. I mean we want Democrats to change their mind. So there’s nothing wrong with changing his mind. Everybody does. We’re human,” she added.
