Conservative radio talk show host Mark Levin announced Tuesday that he has come around and will vote for Donald Trump, despite being one of the Republican nominee’s loudest critics.
“I’m gonna vote for Donald Trump. I’m gonna wind up voting for Donald Trump on election day,” Levin said Tuesday evening on his radio program. He added, “I take no responsibility for the dumb things he says or the dumb things his surrogates say.”
Back in April Levin said should Trump become the GOP nominee, “I am not voting for Donald Trump. Period,” citing “bully dirty tricks Nixonian tactics” by Trump supporters, particularly Trump confidante Roger Stone. “Count me as never Trump,” he added.
Levin, who had endorsed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz for president in March, has repeatedly criticized Trump for not being a real conservative.
But not all of what Levin had to say about Trump over the past several months was negative.
In July, Levin heaped praise on Trump, saying after the billionaire businessman delivered a speech that he “hit it out of the park” when going after Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, and said overall it was a “very good speech.”
Levin said Tuesday that while he may have given advice to Trump months ago during one or two conversations, he is by no means an “adviser” to Trump, and that he would provide advice to any candidate who sought it.
“I was not a cheerleader,” Levin said.
Levin said he thinks Trump has a lot of work to do, despite a new CNN poll Tuesday showing Trump pulling ahead, and especially in battleground states. But, he said, “Hillary’s so awful I just don’t know,” before adding, “But I’m not in the prediction business.”
Levin worked as chief of staff for Attorney General Edwin Meese under President Reagan in the 1980s. He got into the radio hosting business in 2002, and now has a top-rated program that attracts millions of listeners a week.
