Mike Pence to deliver commencement speech at Hillsdale College

Vice President Mike Pence will deliver the commencement address at Hillsdale College, the conservative school said Monday.

“We are proud to have Pence, a man of principled public service, of strong constitutional views, and of deep faith at our campus,” Larry Arnn, president of Hillsdale College, said in a statement. “We are glad to have him back for this culminating ceremony of college life.”

Pence will address Hillsdale graduates May 12.

Hillsdale is a private Christian college in southern Michigan. The school boasts enrollment of more than 1,400 students and declines federal funding.

The school took center stage on Capitol Hill last year when the Senate was debating the GOP tax bill. An amendment to the bill would have exempted any college that rejects federal funds from an excise tax on university endowments, but the provision was stripped from the bill.
