Trump administration puts plans to move US embassy to Jerusalem on hold

The Trump administration has decided not to move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem “at this time,” according to a report.

President Trump promised to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem during a speech at the American Israeli Political Action Committee conference last year.

“We don’t think it would be wise to do it at this time,” a senior White House official told Bloomberg News. “We’ve been very clear what our position is and what we would like to see done, but we’re not looking to provoke anyone when everyone’s playing really nice.”

Since making his campaign promise, Trump has met with both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas at the White House in hopes of brokering a peace agreement.

The president revisited his campaign promise during a joint news conference with Netanyahu earlier this year and said the administration was examining a potential move “with great care.”

But the administration official told Bloomberg the decision to hold off on moving the embassy was made to avoid provoking the Palestinians.
