Reports: Moss is ‘Athlete A’

Redskins receiver Santana Moss has been linked to the Canadian doctor arrested last September and charged with illegally providing human growth hormone to NFL players.

Moss’ connection was first reported by the Buffalo News, citing sources close to the case. His name first surfaced Tuesday, when the story about a Redskins connection first broke, but his involvement was not confirmed. The Buffalo News also reported that federal prosecutors do not intend to file criminal charges against Moss or any other athlete who dealt with Dr. Anthony Galea.

Moss could face suspension by the NFL, even if has not had a positive drug test. The NFL does not test for HGH, but there are past cases where players have been suspended without a positive test. In 2007, New England safety Rodney Harrison was suspended four games for admitted use of HGH, citing a desire to heal faster.

According to documents, Moss told federal investigators that he did not knowingly take HGH. The doctor was arrested in September en route to Washington to treat the player initially dubbed “Athlete A.”
