Trump confirms FBI returned passports, likens bureau and DOJ to a ‘common criminal’

Former President Donald Trump has confirmed his passports, which were taken during last week’s raid on Mar-a-Lago, have been returned by the FBI and Justice Department.

Trump confirmed reports from several Justice Department officials who claimed the passports had been returned to him. The former president likened the departments to a “common criminal” over the passports’ seizure.

“The DOJ and FBI just returned my passports. Thank you! Unfortunately, when they Raided my home, Mar-a-Lago, 8 days ago, they just opened their arms and grabbed everything in sight, much as a common criminal would do. This shouldn’t happen in America,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

Trump has criticized the raid on his personal residence but also has called for less tension in the country, insisting that “the temperature has to be brought down in the country” and warning Monday that “terrible things are going to happen.” He also said he has reached out to the Justice Department to assist with cooling tensions.

The former president has also called for the affidavit, which was used to justify the raid on Mar-a-Lago, to be released and that it be “completely unredacted.” The Justice Department is against the release of the affidavit.

No charges have been brought against the former president in connection with the raid.
