The National Hurricane Center declared Jose and Katia Category 1 hurricanes on Wednesday afternoon, one after the other, as Hurricane Irma made landfall in the Caribbean.
Jose has maximum sustained winds of 75 mph and is headed toward the Leeward Islands east of Puerto Rico. Katia is currently in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico.
Hurricane Irma is a Category 5 storm expected to hit Puerto Rico Wednesday and Florida later this week. The hurricane has already killed at least three people in St. Barts and St. Martin, according to CNN.
President Trump issued an emergency declaration in Florida, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands in anticipation of Irma.
Following Hurricane Harvey, which ravaged Texas last week, the House approved an $8 billion relief package Wednesday.
