Possible Democratic presidential candidate Martin O’Malley, the former governor of Maryland, passed up an opportunity to defend his rival, Hillary Clinton, from growing criticism about her exclusive use of a private email system while she served as secretary of state. The moment came for O’Malley in an interview with a New Hampshire TV station, WMUR.
Watch here:
“One thing [O’Malley] was not in New Hampshire to talk about, his possible primary challenger, Hillary Clinton. Or the recent controversy regarding her private email account,” said the local reporter.
“She’s perfectly capable of defending herself and her record,” O’Malley says in the interview.
The reporter responds, “You say she’s capable of defending herself, do you think she should be?”
“Look, I’ll leave that to her,” said O’Malley, offering Hillary Clinton no lifeline. Then he raised the specter of the law. “I’m not versed on what the federal rules are on emails.”
