The $54 billion increase in military spending proposed by President Trump is “a good start” and he’s keeping his promise to support the military, a Wisconsin Republican said Wednesday.
Rep. Sean Duffy said on Fox News that Trump’s proposed budget and his speech to Congress Tuesday night show that he’s going to follow through with his campaign promises to support the military and veterans.

While some in Congress, like Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., have said the $54 billion increase in the Pentagon’s budget isn’t enough, Duffy said he’s on board with the proposal.
“It’s a good start,” Duffy said. “We have a president who is actually talking about building out our military and taking care our vets. We haven’t seen that for 8 years.”
Duffy said he’s “all about” spending more on the military if that comes up through the appropriations process in Congress. He called that the best way to ensure peace abroad.
“As we know, we have peace through strength,” Duffy said. “We save money in the long run with a larger military. We save lives with a larger, stronger military.”
He added, “Donald Trump kept his promise to the American people. He said he is going to build out our military and take care of the vets and repeal Obamacare and lower taxes.”
