A police shootout near the University of Maryland left one man dead and another hospitalized early Monday morning, according to Prince George’s County police.
Police officers responded to a 911 call at a home of five college students on 48th Avenue off U.S. Route 1 at about 1:30 a.m., according to police spokesman Cpl. Stephen Pacheco.
The five students, four males and a female, apparently were being robbed at gunpoint by at least two suspects, Pacheco said.
One of the students was able to call police. When the officers arrived, the suspects ran out of the home and began shooting and police returned fire, Pacheco said.
One of the suspects died at the scene, Pacheco said.
A second suspect was able to flee to a wooded area, but later was captured by police and taken to a nearby hospital, Pacheco said.
Pacheco did not know the cause of the second suspect’s wounds.
Police did not release the name of either suspect Monday.
None of the college students at the home were injured.
Pacheco said he was not able to determine what school the students attended.
