A Democrat who has made combating climate change the centerpiece of his 2020 presidential campaign was not invited to CNN’s upcoming town hall on the issue.
Washington Gov. Jay Inslee has not reached the threshold set by the cable news network to appear on stage during the Sept. 4 event in New York, CNN said Monday. Candidates need at least 2% support in at least four polls approved by the Democratic National Committee. The 2020 hopefuls have until Wednesday to qualify.
Former Vice President Joe Biden, New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and businessman Andrew Yang have all accepted invites to the town hall.
California Sen. Kamala Harris has met the polling threshold but declined the invite, citing a scheduling conflict.
Candidates will appear on stage separately and will take questions from the audience and a CNN moderator. CNN anchors Erin Burnett, Anderson Cooper, Chris Cuomo and Don Lemon will take turns moderating the town hall.
