Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez on Tuesday backed down from his comment that Republicans “don’t give a shit about people,” by specifying he meant Republican leadership.
On MSNBC, Perez said the plan to repeal Obamacare and the budget proposed by President Trump were heartless documents that showed their priorities.
“I thought the Republican leadership was heartless in how they dealt with the Affordable Care Act,” he said “And then, you look at the budget, their skinny budget. I think it’s a heartless budget.”
Perez is in hot water after a fired-up speech on Friday when he said Republicans “don’t give a shit about people” and then refused to back down from the comments. “I was talking about the Republican leadership,” he said Tuesday.
Perez said Republicans need to take a look at what good Obamacare did before they come up with another repeal plan.
“The Affordable Care Act repeal affects 24 million people and I’ve met folks for who the Affordable Care Act was a life saver,” he said. “It wasn’t a job killer, it was a life saver.”
