Getting high, getting expelled at the Naval Academy

The U.S. Naval Academy expelled three more students for using or possessing synthetic marijuana, school officials announced Thursday.

The continuing investigation into fake pot – which doesn’t show up on traditional drug tests — has yielded 11 expulsions at the Annapolis service academy since Jan. 20. Known as “Spice,” synthetic marijuana is banned by the Defense Department and the Navy.

The three new expulsions took place March 8, officials said.

According to the Associated Press, 11 midshipmen were found violating the Navy’s drug policy last year, seven for Spice. In 2008, none of the 11 drug violations were for Spice.
