Joy Behar: Lamar Alexander could ‘save democracy’ but ‘he doesn’t want to’

ABC’s The View host Joy Behar accused Sen. Lamar Alexander of letting democracy die after he said he would vote against new witnesses in President Trump’s impeachment trial.

“Depending on how the Senate votes today, the impeachment trial could be over by tonight,” Behar, 77, said Friday on the show. “Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander, who has a deciding vote on letting witnesses testify, basically said that ‘Trump is guilty, but so what, who cares.'”

“I mean Lamar Alexander could’ve saved the whole thing by voting for more witnesses, which would save democracy, a small thing. But look, no, he doesn’t want to,” she added.

The Tennessee Republican announced Thursday evening that he would not vote for more witnesses in the impeachment trial. His decision means that Republicans likely have enough votes to end the impeachment trial and acquit Trump by this weekend.
