Alcohol may have been cause in Route 50 crash
Police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in a fatal crash on Route 50 in Arlington on Friday night, according to an Arlington County Police Department spokeswoman.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Route 50 and Irving Street at about 9 p.m. when a Nissan collided head-on with a man on a motorcycle. Police said the Nissan driver remained at the scene of the crash.
The injured motorcyclist was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.
Shooter of 12-year-old at large
Prince George’s County police are looking for a man believed to have shot a 12-year-old boy in Capitol Heights on Saturday morning.
The shooting occurred around 11:30 a.m. when the boy was walking in an alley near the 800 block of Carrington Avenue. He ran home, where his mother discovered he’d been shot in the arm and called police. The boy was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said Sunday a search for witnesses and review of surveillance cameras did not yield a description of the shooter. Anyone with information is asked to call the county Crime Solvers hotline at (866) 411-TIPS.
Search continues for missing woman in Fairfax
Police and fire officials are continuing their search for a woman who went missing Saturday evening at Sandy Run Regional Park.
Authorities say the woman’s boat was found overturned and her car was in the parking lot. According to reports, Prince William County fire personnel joined the search Sunday and expanded it to Fountainhead Regional Park.
The woman, whose name is not being released, is a 65-year-old resident of Fairfax County. Police said she was training for a marathon scheduled for Sunday.
