Ward 3 D.C Councilwoman Mary Cheh is spending the week at Guantanamo Bay as an observer of the U.S. military’s terrorist detention program there.
Cheh left from Andrew’s Air Force base early Monday morning. She traveled with the National Institute of Military Justice.
It’s Cheh’s first visit to Gitmo, and she’s taking the trip as a private citizen, not in her capacity as a councilwoman.
