Hop on the bus to Ocean City

Former Glen Burnie residents Mike and Daleen Burns are looking to fill a gap in the market left

by Simmons Air this summer by starting a shuttle service from Anne Arundel County to Ocean City.

Simmons Air, which flew from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport to Ocean City, was grounded several times before putting off operations until September.

But the Burnses have a solution. Starting in June, they?re offering a service that will cost $29 each way from two locations in Anne Arundel County to Ocean City.

The bus rides last about three hours.

“I actually think this is something we should have started about a year ago,” Mike Burns said.

The Burnses, who moved down to Ocean City nine years ago, started their Beach Express shuttle service in 2002.

They drove people from the Ocean City airport to hotels and served as a shuttle service for Ocean City.

They have 24 passenger buses, 11 passenger vans and five on-staff drivers.

Beach Express will do pick-ups at about noon Friday, Saturday and Sunday at two locations: McKinsley Road in Severna Park and Cromwell Station.

Cromwell Station is near the light rail and BWI, and the McKinsley Road stop will be convenient for residents of Annapolis, Glen Burnie and Pasadena, Daleen said.

The Burnses say the best part about their service is that customers can completely avoid traffic both to and around Ocean City.

“You can ride the bus all day for $2,” Daleen Burns said, adding that there is a lot of cab service, too.
