Toddler’s dad breaks down on stand during murder trial

The 23-year-old father of a toddler who died after she was tossed from a mall walkway broke down in tears after describing his daughter’s death.

James Ogdoc was testifying Tuesday in the trial of Carmela Dela Rosa, who is charged with murder in the November 2010 death of 2-year-old Angelyn Ogdoc, her granddaughter.

Ogdoc said he went to the hospital after learning that Dela Rosa, 50, had thrown Angelyn from a sixth-floor bridge connecting the parking garage and mall at Tysons Corner Center.

The incident happened at about 7 p.m. and the child died about nine hours later.

“They had her hooked up to machines, checking her vitals, and she, she passed away,” Ogdoc testified through tears.

Dela Rosa’s trial began Monday in Fairfax County Circuit Court. She is presenting an insanity defense.

A police officer testified Tuesday that she admitted to throwing Angelyn from the bridge.

Dela Rosa said, “I did it, I threw the baby,” Fairfax County Officer Anthony Stancampiano said. He was the first patrol officer at the scene.
