The Florida Bar reinstated Rep. Matt Gaetz’s eligibility to practice law in the state on Friday after he paid his dues and additional late reinstatement fees, a spokesperson confirmed to the Washington Examiner. He had been on delinquent status for not submitting his payments on time, making him unable to practice law since Oct. 1 when the fees were due.

The Daily Beast reported early Friday morning Gaetz allowed his law license to lapse, implying it may have been connected to a federal investigation into alleged sex trafficking. The GOP representative has repeatedly denied the allegations associated with the case.
The report quoted Gaetz’s communications director, Joel Valdez, saying his license lapsed because he is “no longer actively engaged in the practice of law. He is focused on representing his constituents in Congress, not the courtroom.”
Gaetz, a vocal Trump ally, posted on Twitter a picture of a letter from the Florida Bar with Friday’s date acknowledging his status as an “active member in good standing of the Florida Bar who is eligible to practice law.”
