An “openly queer” elementary school teacher is going viral after being exposed for quietly helping third-grade students find new gender identities.
The teacher, identified as Brianna Rose in a report, posted a video on TikTok in which she discussed the importance of a classroom safe space for gender-questioning elementary school students.
“I am an openly queer teacher,” said Rose, who uses the name @zombriii94 on TikTok, in the video. “I wear a [bisexual] flag watch band, [bisexual] flag bracelet. In my classroom, I keep a rainbow flag.”

Rose is proud that the children know what the symbols mean, according to the video, and lets students know the classroom is a safe space to open up.
“I am a safe place to talk without making a big deal out of being queer,” the purple-haired teacher explains. “So, because I am openly queer, my students trust me, especially my queer students.”
“Two third grade students came to me and asked me to use they/them pronouns and also asked me if I could tell other teachers this,” Rose said. “One student in particular also asked to use a different name, one that is not gendered as what they were born as.”
The teacher told the students that it would not be a problem but was shocked when faculty at the school chastised the actions as inappropriate.
“I gave this information to the other teachers and then got scolded because that was not appropriate for me to communicate.”
What followed appeared to frustrate Rose.
“I hear today, after I have already communicated this with them multiple times, these teachers are still misgendering these students and still using the wrong name for the one who asked for a different name,” the teacher said.

“I don’t care what you believe,” Rose said. “But, when you refuse to respect a queer child’s request for pronoun and name changes, you are hurting them.”
