‘The Situation’ from ‘Jersey Shore’ is indicted again by the Justice Department

The Situation” from the reality TV show “The Jersey Shore” has been indicted, again, for tax fraud, the Justice Department announced Friday.

According to a press release from the department on Friday, Michael “The Situation” Sorrentino and his brother, Marc Sorrentino, have been slapped with the additional charges of tax evasion, structuring and falsifying records, on top of being indicted back in 2014 for tax offenses and conspiring to defraud the U.S.

Specifically, Michael was charged Friday with tax evasion and structuring funds to evade currency transaction reports, while Marc was charged with falsifying records to obstruct a grand jury investigation.

The indictment alleges that the Sorrentino brothers conspired to avoid paying the federal income taxes owed by Michael on approximately $8.9 million between 2010 and 2012. Also included in the allegations is that the Sorrentino brothers underreported income and combined business and personal bank accounts and used the money from the business account to pay for such things as high-end luxury vehicles and clothing.

“If convicted, the Sorrentino brothers face a statutory maximum sentence of five years in prison on the conspiracy count and three years in prison for each count of aiding in the preparation of false tax returns,” the press release stated. “Michael faces a statutory maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for each structuring count and five years in prison for the tax evasion count. Marc faces a statutory maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for obstruction. They also face a period of supervised release, restitution and monetary penalties.”

An arraignment on the new indictment is scheduled for April 17 at 11:30 a.m. before U.S. District Court Judge Susan Wigenton in Newark, N.J., the press release stated.
