Harvey Weinstein facing six additional sexual assault charges out of California

Prosecutors in Los Angeles charged disgraced film producer and convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein with six new counts.

The charges, filed on Friday, stem from the alleged rapes of two women and include three counts of forcible rape and three counts of forcible oral copulation, according to Variety. The Beverly Hills Police Department investigated the alleged crimes.

Weinstein, 68, is accused of raping a woman in a hotel room between September 2004 and September 2005. Investigators also said that he raped a second woman two separate times in November 2009 and November 2010. The identities of both of the alleged victims have not been released.

The former Hollywood mogul is serving a 23-year prison sentence in New York after being convicted on first-degree sexual assault and third-degree rape charges in February. Those charges stem from New York sexual assaults in the mid-1990s, in 2006, and in 2013.

In addition to the charges filed on Friday and the crimes he has already been convicted of, Weinstein was already facing rape and sexual assault charges out of California against three victims. He has an extradition hearing scheduled for Dec. 11.

Prosecutors said that, in total, Weinstein faces up to 140 additional years behind bars for the 11 counts that he has been charged with in California.

“I am thankful to the first women who reported these crimes and whose courage have given strength to others to come forward,” said Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey in a statement on Friday about the charges.

“The willingness of these latest victims to testify against a powerful man gives us the additional evidence we need to build a compelling criminal case,” she added.

Juda Engelmayer, Weinstein’s spokesman, said after the new charges were filed that Weinstein “has always maintained that every one of his physical encounters throughout his entire life have been consensual. That hasn’t changed.”

“At this moment, we cannot comment on the additional charges until we learn more about them,” Engelmayer said.
