The new extension of Woodfield Road in Damascus officially opened Tuesday.
The project extended the road 3,400 feet from north of Main Street to Ridge Road and widened a 2,000-foot portion of Ridge Road. Without the enhancements, five intersections in Damascus were inadequate to handle estimated traffic volumes, an analysis showed.
Lasting about two years, the construction cost $5.9 million.
Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett was at the opening Tuesday.
“This extension of Woodfield Road is a short road with a huge impact on the Damascus community,” he said.
