Senate shoots down parental notification bill

The Virginia Senate has killed a bill to require schools to notify parents if their kids violate a school board policy that would likely result in a student’s suspension.

The measure, sponsored by Del. Kaye Kory, D-Fairfax, sailed through the House of Delegates. Proponents of the bill argued that it would keep parents in the loop with what’s happening with their children, but Sen. Richard Stuart, R-Stafford, said it would place an undue burden on school administrators.

It was voted down by a vote of 28-12.
