Clinton opens up double-digit lead over Trump

Hillary Clinton has opened up her largest lead in nearly a year over Donald Trump, according to a new national poll.

Clinton leads Trump by 13 points, 54-41, among registered voters in a hypothetical general election matchup, according to a new CNN/ORC poll released Wednesday.

This is the largest lead for the Democratic front-runner since July.

Voters also see Trump more unfavorably than Clinton, though both would be the most disliked major party nominees according to CNN polling data dating back to 1992.

Clinton has a net zero favorability rating, as 49 percent see her favorably and 49 percent see her unfavorably. But Trump is in the red, as just 41 percent see him favorably, and 56 percent don’t.

However, Trump won 50-45 when people were asked who would do a better job handling the economy, and almost 90 percent of those asked said that issue is extremely or very important when they vote.

Clinton is more trusted than Trump on a handful other issues: terrorism (50-45), immigration (51-44), healthcare (55-39), the income gap (54-37), foreign policy (61-36), education (61-34) and climate change (63-30).

The one candidate who does better against Clinton is GOP underdog John Kasich. The Ohio governor, though mathematically eliminated from capturing the nomination, beats the former secretary of state by 7 points in a hypothetical general election matchup.

The poll of 1,001 adults, including 890 registered voters, was conducted between April 28-May 1 — days before the Indiana primary — and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points for results among registered voters.
