SEE IT: First photo of Ketanji Brown Jackson along rest of Supreme Court

The Supreme Court held its investiture ceremony for Justice Kentanji Brown Jackson on Friday and published the first photos of the most junior justice alongside the rest of the bench.

President Joe Biden, who nominated Jackson as the first black woman on the high court earlier this year, joined lawmakers and government officials along with Jackson’s family members for the closed-door ceremony Friday morning, where she was escorted to the bench and took the oath administered by Chief Justice John Roberts.

“Thank you,” Jackson said with a smile as an audience of more than 500 attendees applauded.

Roberts and Jackson later walked outside the high court building and descended the steps, as is tradition for the investiture ceremony.

Jackson was confirmed in April and took her seat on the Supreme Court in June after the retirement of now-former Justice Stephen Breyer, who attended Jackson’s ceremony along with former Justice Anthony Kennedy.

Friday’s ceremony comes just days before the start of the high court’s 2022-23 term, in which justices are poised to address questions surrounding LGBT rights, affirmative action, and voting rights.

One of the president’s campaign promises was to make history by nominating the first black female to the Supreme Court.

Senators voted 53-47 to confirm Jackson earlier this year, notably earning the votes of Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME), Mitt Romney (R-UT), and Lisa Murkowski (R-AL).
