Two people were killed, including an off-duty D.C. police officer, when a motorcycle collided with a pedestrian in Prince George’s County Sunday night, according to county police.
Metropolitan police officer Donovan Baily, 32, was on his motorcycle traveling eastbound in a dark stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue between Walters Lane and Donnell Drive in Forestville at about 7:30 p.m. when Baily swerved to avoid a man who was who was crossing the street, said Corporal Clinton Copeland.
Baily’s motorcycle slid and hit the pedestrian, Copeland said.
The pedestrian died at the scene. Baily was taken to an area hospital where he died Monday.
It appears that the man was not walking in a crosswalk, Copeland said. Detectives are still investigating the crash.
Police have not released the name of the pedestrian because they have not notified his next of kin.
