ESPN host ‘happy’ when NFL quarterback Josh Allen fails because his fans are ‘people with American flags’

Former NFL player and ESPN host Dominique Foxworth took issue with supporters of NFL quarterback Josh Allen because they are “people with American flags and dogs and skull and crossbones.”

“I am fully aware that I have biases, and my biases are not based on Josh Allen,” Foxworth said during a conversation with ESPN’s Bomani Jones before criticizing those who support Allen.

“It’s based on the people that are defending Josh Allen,” Foxworth continued. “I would be 100% lying if I said that when Josh does something dumb, a little part of me doesn’t get happy … because the people who are telling me that Josh is the Second Coming and Josh is better than everybody are people with American flags and dogs and skull and crossbones.”

Many took issue with Foxworth’s comment, including at least two of Allen’s Buffalo Bills teammates.

“Hold up bruh,” Bills safety Jordan Poyer tweeted. “We not jus letting this slide, yeah?! @espn this what we on now in the sports world!? @Foxworth24 we gotta do better my brother… cause this ain’t it.”

“ay @Foxworth24 are you talking about the fans that just raise over 700k for a hospital during a pandemic?” Bills offensive lineman Jonathan Feliciano tweeted. “Ppl do/say the corniest things to try n get ahead.”

“ESPN analyst says he roots for Josh Allen to fail because Allen’s supporters are the kind of people who have American flags in their social media profiles,” Outkick founder Clay Travis tweeted. “Really.”

Some headlines and tweets suggested that Foxworth, a black man, made the comment about Allen, a white man, with a racial angle in mind.

ESPN did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Washington Examiner.

Foxworth later responded to the controversy saying he was “taken out of context.”

“Nobody I respect has taken this seriously so I’ve been ignoring it,” Foxworth tweeted in response to Poyer’s tweet. “And getting taken out of context kinda comes with my job, so I haven’t been trippin. But I respect you and the ppl in your building and it bothers that yall have spent 1 sec thinking about this disingenuous BS.”
