First lady Melania Trump will not travel to California next week for a fundraiser.
White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham told Politico on Monday that the March 18 fundraiser in Beverly Hills was canceled due to a “scheduling conflict.”
The cancellation comes amid the coronavirus outbreak. Los Angeles County, where the event was to be held, has declared a state of emergency because of the spread of the disease.
It would have been the first fundraiser that Trump hosted alone, and her husband’s campaign was offering a lucky winner the chance to meet her at the event. She has another scheduled for March 25 at the president’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
Trump did not regularly appear on the campaign trail during the 2016 presidential election or the 2018 midterm elections, citing her role as a mother to 13-year-old Barron. However, she is expected to step into the spotlight more this time around.
Grisham did not immediately return the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.
