The U.S. Secret Service on Tuesday responded to a report of a person brandishing a weapon north of the White House, briefly limiting access to the complex as agents investigated the situation.
“Secret Service Uniformed Division are responding to an incident in the 800th block of 17th st,” the federal law enforcement agency wrote on Twitter via its official account around 11 a.m. “North fence line of the @WhiteHouse and the sidewalk between I and H street are shut down.”
Within 20 minutes, the Secret Service said the incident was “cleared” and those areas were reopened. The Secret Service added that officers were “unable to locate a person matching a citizen’s description” of “an individual had a weapon.”
