Art legend Andy Warhol’s iconic silk-screen portrait of Marilyn Monroe is expected to break records when it goes up for auction in May at Christie’s in New York.
The asking price is reportedly $200 million, with Warhol’s current auction record sitting at $105.4 million.
The 3-foot portrait, labeled “Shot Sage Blue Marilyn,” is from 1964.

It was based on a promotional image for the film Niagara, according to a report.
The image features a rare depiction of the Hollywood starlet.

Warhol gave her ruby lips on a bubblegum-pink face adorned with blue eye shadow.
The title of the work comes from the sage blue background Monroe is set against.
The series the piece is a part of, “Shot Marilyn,” gained fame after a visitor to Warhol’s studio allegedly fired a bullet into a stack of the artist’s canvases, the report noted.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Thomas and Doris Ammann Foundation Zurich, which seeks to help children through healthcare and education.
The creator of the foundation, Doris Ammann, died last year at 76 years old, according to the report.
