Post writers take the stand in Libby trial

I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby’s defense team called a parade of Washington Post reporters to the witness stand in federal court Monday, including Pulitzer Prize winner Bob Woodward, in their effort to poke holes in the government’s case that Libby lied about circumstances surrounding the disclosure of the classified CIA status of Valerie Plame.

Libby faces charges of perjury and obstruction of justice in U.S. District Court for the District over when and to whom he disclosed Plame’s identity. Plame’s identity was revealed in late July 2005 in a column by Robert Novak, which some argue was political payback for her husband’s, Ambassador Joseph Wilson, criticism of a claim that Iraq was seeking nuclear material known as “yellow cake” from the African country of Niger.
