District public and charter schools are set to receive 15,000 books on Tuesday from a children’s literacy nonprofit group.
Reading is Fundamental Inc. will distribute the books throughout 50 schools following a read-aloud at the Emery Education Campus in Northeast at 1:30 p.m..
The second-grade students will create puppets and compose haikus in theme with the book, “Coyote Sings to the Moon” by Thomas King. In honor of American Indian Heritage month, a group of American Indians will perform traditional dances and share artifacts and animal skins with the children.
Reading is Fundamental Inc. supplied 4.4 million children nationwide with 15 million free books last year.
