Oops: Chicago zoning committee to consider ‘Barak Obama’ presidential center

An agenda drafted by Chicago’s Committee on Zoning, Landmarks, and Building Standards misspelled “Barack Obama” on documents about the commission’s upcoming hearing on the Obama Presidential Center.

The City Clerk’s office stamped official documents Thursday that state “The Barak Obama Foundation” had applied to build Obama’s 235-foot-tall center at Jackson Park, which sits on the National Register of Historic Places.

However, Obama’s first name is spelled “Barack,” not “Barak.”

The document stated that the Center, which was announced last year as a presidential library that the National Archives would oversee, plans to include “eating and drinking establishments (including liquor).”

Members of the Protect Our Parks, Inc., group that sued the have compared to a “bait-and-switch” to become a large multi-use facility.

The hearing will take place Tuesday, May 22.
