Ward 6 D.C. Councilman Tommy Wells pulled emergency legislation Tuesday that would limit the District’s shelters for homeless families to city residents.
Wells said he plans to introduce the legislation later, but he wants to meet with community members who have voiced concerns before moving forward.
With the city facing a $175 million shortfall, Wells said it’s necessary for the District to cut out the cost of serving the 10 percent of shelter residents who come from other jurisdictions.
