The Eastport teenager who police say confessed to shooting an Annapolis man has been charged as an adult with attempted first-degree murder, according to court records.
Malachi McFarland, 15, of Frederick Douglas Street, also faces attempted second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault and handgun charges, according to court records this week.
Annapolis police said McFarland confessed to shooting Jawan Keith Tasker, 20, of Graff Court, about 3 p.m. Monday in the 1000 block of President Street in Eastport.
McFarland said Tasker had robbed him several weeks ago and that he felt threatened, police said.
Tasker remains in critical condition at University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore City.
Three arrested in identity theft scheme in Anne Arundel
Three men from out of state were arrested Thursday at Marley Station mall in Glen Burnie for running an interstate identity theft scheme and stealing more than $5,000 in merchandise, Anne Arundel police said.
Police said the suspects stole victims? identities from the Internet, established false credit accounts to purchase items and then sold the items on the Internet.
Valdaze McDaniel and Charles Ingram, both of Overland Park, Kan., and Bryan Gatlin, of Roswell, Ga., are charged with theft and fraud involving multiple victims.
Severna Park woman indicted on health care fraud charges
A Severna Park woman was indicted Thursday for allegedly billing $578,780 in mental healthservices she didn?t provide, federal prosecutors said Friday.
Virginia Acree, a state licensed clinical specialist in psychiatric and mental health nursing, was arrested Friday on 10 counts of defrauding health care benefit programs, prosecutors said.
Acree, 49, billed insurance companies, Medicaid and Medicare for psychotherapy for patients in Glen Burnie and Severna Park between January 2003 and November 2007, but the patients never received treatment.
The indictment seeks forfeiture of the amount health care providers were billed.
Acree faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
