Netanyahu ensnared in scandal

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been caught on tape trying to arrange a quid pro quo with an Israeli newspaper owner, seeking more favorable coverage in return for financial benefits.

The report has caused an uproar in Israel, where there is speculation about whether it could do serious damage to Netanyahu’s political future. The case is one of two that involve Netanyahu that are being investigated by Israeli police. The second centers on gifts Netanyahu received from businessmen.

According to reports, Netanyahu can be heard offering to limit circulation of Israel Hayom, a pro-Netanyahu outlet owned by American GOP megadonor Sheldon Adelson, if Yedioth Ahronoth daily owner Noni Mozes gives him better coverage. Mozes is considered one of Netanyahu’s major media foes.
