Appearing with Indiana Gov. Mike Pence on the campaign trail Tuesday, Donald Trump teased the idea of a Trump-Pence ticket to a Hoosier crowd.
Trump’s remarks suggest that he has yet to reach a conclusion regarding whom to choose as his running mate. Pence is a leading contender for Trump’s VP pick alongside others such as New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who have campaigned in recent days with the former reality television star.
“I often joke, you’ll be calling up Mike Pence, I don’t know whether he’s going to be your governor or your vice president, who the hell knows,” Trump said. “But you’re going to call him and you’re either going to say, ‘Governor, or vice president, sir, please please speak to Mr. Trump. We’re winning too much. We the people of Indiana cannot stand all of these victories. We can’t take it. We’re not used to it.'”
Trump told the crowd he would then confer with Pence and subsequently instruct the people of Indiana that he would decide to keep “winning.”
The presumptive GOP nominee will head to Cleveland next week to formally celebrate his victories in the Republican primaries.
